End of Life
Program
The End of Life
committee at Sunnyside Health Care Center recently held a bake sale
to raise money for the purchase of a special chair that turns into a
bed and can be used by family/friends of residents who are in their
last stages of life. This chair allows family and friends to spend
those final hours close to their loved ones. A formal “End of Life”
program will begin at Sunnyside Health Care Center in 2007. If
anyone is interested in making a donation toward the purchase of
this special chair, contributions can be sent to:

Radiology Gets New
CT Scanner
A new CT scanner
was recently installed in the Radiology department that produces
twice as many pictures compared with the previous scanner. The new
machine is capable of taking 16 pictures in the same amount of time
that the old scanner created eight. Images from the new GE BrightSpeed scanner are a higher resolution and more detailed than
the old unit. Because it is faster and covers a larger area of the
body in a shorter time, patients do not have to hold their breath as
long. For patients, the new scanner with its enhanced qualities
means they are able to complete their appointments more quickly than
before.

Nursing Program Now Available Locally
A two-year registered nursing program began in 2003 at Fond du Lac
Tribal and Community College in Cloquet. The RN program is being
offered in conjunction with Lake Superior College. Grant money is
available to individuals enrolling in the nursing classes. The need
for more nursing programs in the U.S. is tremendous—hundreds of
students are turned away from existing nursing programs each year
due to lack of space. This program fills a great need toward helping
meet the demand for more health care workers. For more information,
call Fond Du Lac Tribal
and Community College at 879-0800. |
