CMH Diabetes Education Program Receives Award

The Diabetic Education program at Community Memorial Hospital has received the American Diabetes Association Education Recognition Certificate for its quality diabetes self management education program. This award recognizes that the CMH program offers high quality education, that is an essential component of effective diabetes treatment. This award also ensures that the educational programs meet the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education Programs and that a staff of knowledgeable health professionals are available to provide participants in the program with comprehensive information about diabetes management.

The CMH Diabetes Education program has been certified since 2005 and includes
Director, Mary Kay Marciniak, RN, BSN, CDE and Jean Maslowski, RD, LD.

Nationwide, the American Diabetes Association estimates there are over 25 million people who have diabetes, while just under 19 million have been diagnosed with the disease, another seven million are unaware that they have diabetes. Since 1987, the death rate due to diabetes has increased by 45%, while deaths from other major diseases have decreased.
